My parents in laws are both cancer survivors, but they are healthy now and are quite mobile. They moved into a retirement community recently. The retirement community is set up so that people are living in apartment like dwellings - similar to if they were living on their own. The only major difference is that everyone who’s living in the retirement community is around the same age, the meals are prepared for them. The retirement  community also has a communal area where community related activities are organized and the residents can socialize with one another.

Whether you are living on your own or living with relatives, that’s fine if you are able to cope with it. But, if you don’t have enough people in your lives to visit you as often or you are feeling lonely,  living in a retirement community is not a bad idea at all. What do you think?

When I was a student in college, I used to live in a house very close to the highway. I lived there for four years and every time my friends came over, they used to complaint how noisy the cars and trucks at the highway were. They often wondered how could I slept through the nights in the midst of all this noises.

Well, I think my ears just learned to tune out all this noises after a while. Maybe because of this constant exposure to noise pollution for four years, there were signs of hearing problem in the last two years. The workers showed up to do the tiling of the counter-top and the kitchen floor this morning. As I am writing this with the knocking and tapping noise at the background. They told me everything can be done today. Hopefully that’s the case!

The next will be getting a carpenter to fix the kitchen cabinets, then the kitchen renovation will be all set. Hallelujah, I can have my kitchen back, finally! Needless to say, it’s a big mess out there and it will take 2-3 days to put everything back in order.

The sliding glass door at the tutoring center is facing the west, it gets a lot of sun during the evening before the sunset. The classroom next to the sliding door can get really hot due to this excessive rays. We have decided to put a layer of tint on the sliding glass door to reduce infrared rays that cause heat and ultraviolet light rays that cause fading.

The tint is similar to the one they have on San Diego glass tint. It is not too expensive, but it’s really effective in reducing the glare and heat. We have a cool room now and in a long run, I think the lower utility bills will pay for the tint itself. These films are invisible on glass but can help to keep the natural tone of the room with low reflectivity levels, so it doesn’t significantly reducing visible light transmittance. We wouldn’t want a dark room that looks like having some suspicious activities to parents who send their children to us.:-)

As some of my regular readers know, I have experienced chronic fatigue recently and has just done the health screening at the hospital last week and am waiting for the test results. Doctor did mention that he suspected I may have thyroid and it’s probably at its hypo stage right now. But, we need to see the blood test tomorrow to confirm that’s the case. The pencil is made from recycled newspaper, it didn’t impress me now as I have seen children bringing them them to class all the time. But, the Instant snow will be quite handy to impress the little kids, I am going to use it to make snow in the classroom. I really won’t mind getting more of this as holiday gifts so that I can be the wizard science teacher who can make snow. (Hint, hint,… )

This may be offensive to some people, but I do not blog for others. I blog because it’s something I find interesting to do right now. I blog because I like putting down my thoughts in words and I have many things to share. I am glad at the same time I meet some genuine and nice people, beside the fake and nasty people. Making some nice pocket money out of it just added the fun.

I do not blog to gain popularity nor to verify my own existence. I do not blog to please others because you can never. I do not blog because I have nothing better to do, in fact I am very busy in my real life. Running a business, just moved house, still with boxes of things waiting to be unpacked.

My two sisters recently bought a condominium together. After the closing, they wanted to do some paint job. But, it’s a high rise condominium, it’s impossible for them to do the exterior painting by themselves. Furthermore, the management of the condominium doesn’t allow any renovation or painting work during the weekends (so that it won’t disturb other neighbors).

Since weekends are the ONLY time they are free to do anything, they have no choice but to hire people to do the entire painting. One of my sisters would go to the condominium early in the morning before she went to work to open the door for the painters. Luckily the painters are quite reliable, even though they were not there to supervise them, they did a good job with the painting.

My friend Beth was a photography major in college. She has been working as sports photographer with an independent newspaper in the small town ever since she graduated college 8 years ago. I have been having hormone that goes hay wire and weight that goes up in straight line for close to two years now. Doctors said the hormone imbalance was due to stress. Well, my major stressor is the procrastinator husband, too bad I cannot just get rid of him?

I have have good appetite lately and when I am emotionally down, I would binge on food. I was eating all the fattening food. But, he got married right after college, have two children and things never happened as planned, as you may have noticed it’s true for most things in life.

My sister in law works full time outside of home too. Their children are 10 and 8 years old now and they are pretty independent children who do not fuss much and doing very well in school. My sister in law had just completed a Masters degree and she is going to take up a PhD as well. My brother has been talking about pursuing his dream of getting a MBA recently. He has been looking and surveying all the MBA Programs available in the market.

Since he is working at a rather demanding job with long hours, it might not be possible for him to just go for evening or weekend classes. Online courses may be more suitable for working adult like him who cannot afford to just quit his job to become full time student. He has short listed a few programs that he finds suitable and will decide once he finds out all the necessary information and do a comparison.

Both my parents in law are cancer survivors. Though mother in law’s cancer is in remission, but she has arthritis that often caused her not to be able to move freely. Since they have been on all sort medications since they were diagnosed to have cancers 10 years ago. They always have some simple medical equipment like blood pressure meter, glucose monitoring system and thermometer around the house.

My father in law just went through a major surgery and all the cancer therapies last year. His mobility was hindered and had to rely on a scooter to move about in the retirement community. My mother in law couldn’t really take care of him because she herself is suffered from all sorts ailments too. So, they decided to sell their house in CA and moved back to IL, and lived in a retirement community with assisted living.

Christmas is just around the corner, have you started shopping for christmas gifts? There are Christmas decorations up all over town. I cannot believe they do this so soon. If not for Halloween I bet they would start selling Christmas decorations before the fall is here!
