Many more things to do before going off

There are so many more things to do before going off to PJ for the scheduled surgery. Got to make sure the refrigerator is emptied and the trash is brought out. As I walked out the door, feel a little nervous and uneasy, went back in to double check to make sure all the switches, lights and fans are turned off.

Wouldn’t want to come back to find the house full of maggots or worst the house burned down in a fire caused by electrical short circuits! Scary!! :-)

Cheap flight to Orlando

Consider how long the migration process is going to take, and how long it takes for him to put his acts together, it will probably be better to postpone the move to IL. Since the business is fold up completely and the sale has finalized, I would have all the time to do what I want in this coming two months!

As he rather spend the money allocated for the air tickets on buying toys, I won’t feel guilty spending my money on Cheap flight to Orlando and discount Disney World tickets. I am sure visiting Disneyland and have a good time with Mickey and Minnie without him is more fun that waiting for him to do what he is supposed to do. It’s too stressful to deal with a procrastinator, should just go somewhere for a vacation and forget about the stress. Must do it after recovering from the surgery!!

Fell off the stairs

Was taking a shower when the phone rang on Saturday morning. My feet were probably wet and soapy when I ran down the stairs. And the results of my carelessness: a swelling hand with torn ligament!

bandaged hand

It will take about a week to heal! A bit inconvenient to have only one hand to move and pack stuffs. Yesterday was the last day I have to clear out the center. I got the Indian guys next door to move some of the boxes into the car. The boxes are going to stay inside the car till my hand heals. Driving with one hand and have the right hand crossed over to shift the gear was challenging.

LCD TVs at every turn

The price of LCD flat screen TVs has become more affordable this days, you see them at the turn of every corner, practically everywhere you go!

During the recent trips to this offices to gather documents for the migration, I realized that most government offices have LCD TVs at the waiting area. The TVs are either hanging from the ceiling or wall with lcd mount.

In fact, have visited quite a few government offices in the last two months. I would say 9 out of 10 of this offices have more than one LCD TVs installed at the waiting area!

Save for a roof over our head

Won’t be selling the house here when I move, will rent it out. May be when I am old and retired, can come back to live here again. Can’t afford to buy another house right now, will be renting a small apartment for a couple of years until can afford to buy another house.

In order to buy a house with more than 20% down within 4-5 years, we probably have to watch every penny and save hard. So, buying a time share or fractional ownership vacation home is not an item on the list, may be it will be for another lifetime. :-)

The filthy streets

On my recent trip to PJ, I decided to take a bus and have to go down to the notorious bus terminal. Man, all the streets around the area have been taken over by foreigners and the streets are so filthy and smelly.

On my day coming home, I took the transits downtown early in the morning. I got down at the transit station nearby and walked to the bus terminal. It was about 7.30 a.m in the morning and most shops are not opened yet. But, the places that sell breakfasts and wholesale flowers beside and behind the once famous old hotel were all busy. Look like many office workers stopped for a bite before they start their days. The food looks really enticing, but consider how filthy the surrounding, I gave it a pass.

Government office can be efficient

Was at the Birth Registration office to obtain an abstract of my birth certificate yesterday. It was a fast and good experience. It costs five bucks to get an abstract and within 20 minutes, I was out of the Birth Registration office. (The best thing is: the government offices moved into our neighborhood recently, it takes only 3 minutes to drive there from our house.)

The clerk who attended to me looks pretty young, probably in her early 20s. While waiting for the other clerk to do the search, I did some small talks with the receptionist. She agreed with me that people in this office are much younger now, she also mentioned that they were many old staffs retired in the last few years. Hopefully, as the old ones are gone, the new ones are starting a new service culture, fast, efficient and rid of bureaucracy!

More paperwork and getting an apartment

Have been really busy getting all the migration paperwork in order. There are several documents we need to apply at this end and we try to do it earlier so that we get ahead of the bureaucrats.

On top of that, making sure the big boy is not procrastinating is a stressful job. He has finally started looking at getting an apartment. So he is not planning to put me up at the park or on the street!.

Don’t think he will have time left to scout for furniture. We would have to do that together. His parents and some of his relatives have given us some furniture, but we probably need to get a dining table and some cooking utensils. No, we do not need a beer pong table because we are not going to move into a frat house. :-)
