Cheap ink catridges and laser toners

We have two HP printers, an all in one HP printer and a monochrome laser printer. The all-in-one machine that can be used as scanner, as well as fax and copier machine on top of being a printer. The machines didn’t cost much, but I tell you, that’s the conspiracy, they sell you a cheap machine, but the ink cartridges and laser toners can cost a bomb!

Since ink cartridges and laser toners are major expenses of the printing cost, we learned to conserve ink and finding cheap HP printer cartridges online. In fact, we found quality printer supplies at cheaper prices online than the local stores. We were able to get the laser toners for a deep discount at some of the stores and get free shipping for order more than certain amount, much less than what we used to pay.

Slipcovers for dining chairs

I have wanted to sew this slipcovers for the dining chairs for a long time. The plastic covers that came with the chairs were ripped off and there were some stains on the cushions from accidental spills. So I decided to wash the cushions and sew them some dresses to prevent them from getting dirty.

The sewing pattern of the slipcovers is from a sewing tutorial that I printed off the Internet many years ago. I did some modifications based on the materials and fabrics that I have on hand. I need to finish all the fabric stash I have before spending more money getting new stuffs

There are six chairs, I have sewn up four, so two more to go! :-)

Small prints on international phone cards

Over the years, being in an international marriage inevitably makes us the expert of different types of calling cards. When you look for a phone card to call international, you have to read the small prints! The Big Boy had the habit of skipping that when he helped to pick up phone cards from the gas stations. He often wondered why the phone card that had 500 minutes ran out after a few weeks, without even talking for more than an hour on it!

Well, some phone cards may have a lower rate per minute but charge a connection fee, most also some charge a weekly maintenance fee once you have started using it. In another word, you cannot just decide the card is a good deal based on the rate per minute, you have to make sure the other fees will not eat up all the card values. We have learned to choose a phone card that has the lowest weekly or bi-weekly maintenance fee, as it always come out to be more economical no matter the per minute rate might be higher.

Hot and Spicy Teppanyaki fish

Went to JJ store for grocery shopping and decided to have lunch at the food court. Have not eaten there for a long time, just “discovered” a new food stall called “Mr Teppanyaki”. Well, it might have been there for a long time, but it’s new to me! :-)

Since I have been craving for something hot and spicy, I ordered this Teppanyaki pomfret.

The fish came with rice and some pappadums (lentils chips - the spicy Indian crackers). Everything tasted alright. But I wished the guy who grilled the fish had turned it around, as it’s burned on one side.

As a result of that, quite a big chunk of the fish was burned and stuck on the Aluminum foil.

Study and work at the same time

Many people may not see the importance of having good and relevant qualifications would help with their future job prospects when they were younger. But, after they have worked for a while and reached the bottle neck, they realized that though paper qualifications are not compulsory, they gave you a good start up and do get you there faster.

Many adults may have thought of going back to school to get the qualifications that they need, but not many working adults can afford to quit their job and go back to school full time. With the availability of online degrees, it’s made possible for adults to study without having to quit their jobs. They can schedule their study along side their work. So long they are ready to sacrifice their leisure time, it’s possible to study and work at the same time!

Sickly Christmas

Caught a flu on Christmas eve, it really dampen the spirit. Didn’t feel motivated to get up or get out of the door. So ended up spending the entire Christmas day on the couch, nursing the cold and feeling terrible.

Didn’t feel like talking, so I hang up the phone and switched off the computer, took a break from blogging and had a pity party with myself. :-) Feeling better yesterday, got up to cook some comfort food and went for a walk in the neighborhood. Finally I am feeling normal !

Want to be a medical assistant ?

When I was in college, I lived right outside the college, opposite the medical school. During the four years that I lived there, my roommates were mostly medical and dental students. Ana was in medical school training to be a doctor, Sue was training to be a dentist and Gin was in the medical assistant program, training to be the assistant in the radiology lab.

I have never aspire to be in the medical care profession because I cannot stand the sight of blood. But I really admire my friends who have chosen to be in this caring professions.Though many may think they are going to have great jobs that makes a lot of money, it takes a lot of hard work to go through the training and one must really likes it to be able to endure the torturous schedule. :-)

My cousin is one of those people who are passionate about the medical profession, she wanted to be a doctor but could not afford the medical school, so she decided to become a medical assistant. She took one of the medical assistant training programs a few years ago and got herself certified and graduated from one of the top medical assistant schools. With sheer hard work and dedication, she was able to graduated with flying colors. She still works in the hospital and enjoyed her work very much.

I believe one must chose what they love to do, so that they can enjoy what they do, not just endure. If you are interested in a medical career or considering a career switch, you may want to check out the links above, to find out more about the medical assistant programs.
